Prisoners of the Cicpc El Hatillo sew their mouths to demand transfers

Since the night of Thursday, May 19, a group of detainees in the cells of the Kidnapping Division of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (Cicpc) of El Hatillo have held a protest to demand transfers to prisons. During the night of this Friday the 20th, the claim action became radical, when the inmates decided to sew their lips to start a hunger strike.

Videos received by the NGO Una Ventana a la Libertad document the moment in which the inmates puncture their mouths with needles and thread and complain to officials about the conditions they live in.

Unofficial sources report that those deprived of liberty disagree, with what they assure is the violation of due process in their cases.

Relatives informed the press that the requests of the inmates range from transfer to checkpoints such as improvements in the conditions of the dungeons and an end to cruel acts or torture against prisoners. They denounce that the procedural delay leads to overcrowding in the cells.

With this protest, four riots have been added in the last hours in detention facilities: the Retén de San Carlos in Zulia, the CICPC in Acarigua, Portuguesa and the CICPC in El Hatillo.

Recently, the Venezuelan Prison Observatory issued a report in which they pointed to the Corps of Criminal and Criminalistic Scientific Investigations (CICPC) as the security agency "most denounced" for cases of torture .

He indicated that in 2021 the organization registered 441 people victims of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.

"The venues where there are more complaints are at the headquarters of the CICPC in El Hatillo and the DGCIM (General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence) in Boleíta", both located in the state of Miranda, near Caracas, they pointed out.
