The deputy director of the School Hospital (HE), Dr. Franklin Gómez, reported that the doctors are fighting to save the arm of the man who suffered severe injuries to his entire left arm, due to the bite of a lion in the park of El Picacho Park in the capital.

The Honduran was about to lose his arm when he was bitten by the lion after putting his left arm in the animal's cage at the Rosy Walther zoo, known as El Picacho, in Tegucigalpa, Francisco Morazán.

The patient is 38 years old and must undergo several studies including neurological, vascular and muscle function.

Gómez assured that the School Hospital has all the specialties that are needed to care for the wounded.

"This is a serious case, and a call to caution is made to the entire population, not to expose themselves during visits to the zoo and less dare to tempt animals in captivity," the doctor recommended.

For his part, the manager of the zoo, Javier Valenzuela, told the media that the man entered a prohibited perimeter security zone.

He defended that the animals are well fed, each according to their requirements, and in the case of Simba, about five days a week, with beef and chicken, he added.

Valenzuela summed up that prudence must be maintained, that Simba is not a violent animal, but he is a wild animal and if he feels threatened he defends himself, even the keepers treat him with the limits that are required.

In addition to Simba, there are also other felines in El Picacho, such as jaguars, pumas, tigrillos and others that consume about 1,500 pounds of meat per month, according to the center's authorities.

In 2018, a similar event was recorded at the El Picacho zoo in which a man under the influence of alcohol was also injured after trying to caress Simba. GO/Hondu
