SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A woman was shot and killed by police in Sacramento Saturday after allegedly stabbing a Sacramento Police Department officer in the arm, investigators say.

The shooting took place on Plaza Avenue and Del Paso Boulevard after 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say that just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday, a patrol officer was hailed by an assault victim in the 2500 block of Del Paso Boulevard.

According to police, the assault victim told officers that she was assaulted by a woman and gave officials a description of the suspect.

Minutes later, officers say they found a woman matching the suspect description provided. The woman allegedly ran from officers for several minutes as one officer followed her in a car.

A second officer then arrived and told the suspect to stop in the Del Paso Boulevard/ Rio Linda Boulevard Alley area, police say.

The suspect did not stop and allegedly charged the officer before pulling out a knife. Investigators say the suspect then attacked the officer by stabbing him in the upper arm.

After allegedly stabbing the officer, the woman fell to the ground but was still brandishing the knife at police, officials say. An officer-involved shooting then happened.

Police officials say that officers attempted life-saving measures after the shooting, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer involved was taken to a hospital where he is recovering from non-life threatening injuries, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
