Guatemala City, Guatemala - Nov 03, 2023

An armed incident perpetrated this November 3 by two individuals, one of them possibly a minor, was documented by a video surveillance camera placed in a house in the Vásquez neighborhood, zone 21 of Guatemala City.

The attack claimed the life of a person, until now unidentified, who was standing in the back of a vehicle parked in one of the streets of that capital neighborhood.

The images show how two subjects, dressed in black jackets and gray pants, cautiously approach other people who are talking on 9th Street and 3rd Avenue in the neighborhood.

Then, without saying a word, they unholstered pistols and shot to kill the target who was standing behind a vehicle parked in the area. They executed him while he was looking at his cell phone.

The target to be eliminated falls to the ground, but two other people who were close to the deceased respond with firearms and shoot them to repel them.

The two subjects run to take shelter from the gunshots, and one is wounded. Municipal Firefighters confirm that a man died in the incident.

"We transferred two men to a care center, they had gunshot wounds, one of the injured people is a minor under 17 years of age and was located on the edge of a ravine," explains Carlos Hernández, spokesperson for the relief institution.

The National Civil Police (PNC) took the minor under custody to a hospital, because they believe he was involved in the incident. The first investigations detail that he is one of the two who appear in the video.

The two subjects have been identified. One of the alleged hitmen is Jeremy Rogelio Arnoldo Escobar Morataya, 19, and a 17-year-old teenager.

The first had an arrest warrant in force since January 23 for a murder case. Escobar Morataya is a resident of the Loma Blanca neighborhood, zone 21.
