'He isn’t this monster': Reno police release bodycam footage of shooting of Army veteran
The mother of a man shot and killed by a Reno police officer during a domestic violence call earlier this month says her son struggled after serving five tours of duty in Afghanistan.
Police on Thursday released partial bodycam footage of the killing of 34-year-old Caleb Briggs by an officer responding to a domestic violence report.
The dramatic YouTube post includes excerpts from 911 calls made by neighbors on Dec. 6, reporting that a woman was screaming about another woman being strangled. Yelling can be heard in the background.
Bodycam footage shows an officer pulling up at a home on Colorado River Boulevard near Plumb Lane and South Virginia Street.

The video shows Briggs standing inside a home with his right hand behind his back. He curses at the officer to get out. The officer asks if Briggs is not the problem behind why the police were called.
Briggs suddenly lunges and there’s a struggle in the doorway. The officer breaks free and fires off four rounds.
Briggs lands on his stomach. Other officers arrive, put on gloves and handcuff him. Briggs would die a short time later at Renown Regional Medical Center.
The Sparks Police Department is investigating the incident per regional police shootings protocol.
Briggs was born and raised in Reno and graduated from Reed High School, his mother, Susie McGarvie, told the RGJ.
His father died when Briggs was 12, McGarvie said. Briggs wanted to do something positive to make his father proud so he signed up for the military at age 17.
“I had to sign for Caleb to go in the Army,” she said.
Briggs eventually became an Army Ranger who did five tours in Afghanistan from 2009 to 2013 and received numerous medals, ribbons and badges, according to the U.S. Army. He was a dog handler working in bomb detection, his mother said, and was honorably discharged according to his discharge papers.
