Former motorcycle taxi driver is shot dead in front of his home in Itamaraju

A video circulating on social media shows the moment in which Erilson Simões Matos , aged 34, is murdered with several gunshots in front of his home in the center of the city of Itamaraju, in Bahia, in the early hours of this Monday (8).

Erilson was a former motorcycle taxi driver and currently worked as the owner of a delivery pizzeria in the region. He was surprised by two men on a motorcycle when he arrived home. One of them got out of the vehicle and shot the victim several times, who still tried to react, but fell in the middle of the street. The criminal continued shooting even after Erilson was down.

Residents called the police and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU), who quickly arrived at the scene. Erilson was rescued and taken to the municipal hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and died. The body was sent to the city's Legal Medical Institute (IML), where it will undergo autopsy examinations.

The civil police began investigations to identify the perpetrators and the motivation for the crime. According to preliminary information, Erilson was well-liked in the community. The suspicion is that this was an execution for revenge or to settle scores.

The case shocked the residents of Itamaraju, who mourned Erilson's death on social media and called for justice. Friends and family paid tribute to the businessman and former motorcycle taxi driver.
