The entire area witnessed a shocking and gruesome incident in Potashpur, located in East Midnipur district. A man has allegedly brutally murdered his wife and roamed the area with the shaved head. The onlookers are also shocked to see such an incident. After this incident, a shadow of fear has descended on the area. The accused, identified as Gautam Guchait, reportedly used a homemade machete to behead his wife Phulrani Guchait inside their residence.

After committing this heinous crime, the accused came out of his house, carried the murder weapon along with his wife's severed head and went to a local tea shop. Onlookers huddled in fear. Eyewitnesses said the accused sat calmly on a bench with his wife's severed head and chin on either side. Finally the authorities of Potashpur police station intervened and arrested the accused.

Everyone in the area knew that the arranged couple's relationship was not healthy. There were frequent quarrels between them. The accused, a hawker by profession, suspected his wife of an alleged extra-marital affair, leading to a long-standing dispute between them. The couple also have a son, currently in fifth grade, and the horror surrounding the incident still lingers.

After the arrest, law enforcement officials immediately began the process of conducting an autopsy on the victim's body. Additionally, the accused's parents have been detained for questioning, as authorities probe the motive and circumstances behind the heinous act. In March 2021, he made headlines after he broke into a lion's enclosure at the Alipore Zoological Garden in Kolkata, escaping with minor injuries. Local residents have expressed concern about the mental state of the accused.
