A second-year BSc student at Manipal University in Karnataka took his own life by jumping from the roof of a six-storey building on the college campus. The student decided to take the drastic step after he was reportedly caught engaging in unfair practices during exams.
The student, identified as 20-year-old Satyam Suman, hailed from Bihar. He was pursuing his BSc in the allied health department at Mahe University. The unfortunate incident occurred during the ongoing exams, and a video capturing the moment has gone viral on social media platforms.
The video shows the student standing on the edge of the roof for a few seconds before he jumps off the ledge. Another video shows panic amongst students who witnessed the entire incident.
According to Udupi Additional Superintendent of Police Parameshwar Ananth Hegde, "The student was caught engaging in malpractice during the exam. Following a warning, he was expelled from the examination hall. Subsequently, he faced humiliation, leading to this tragic decision to end his life."
The police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
