The terrible death of a railway trainee in Ekibastuz: a special commission is looking for those responsible

The death of a 21-year-old resident of Ekibastuz, sandwiched between the carriages of a freight train, is being investigated by a special commission of the Pavlodar region labor department and police, Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports .

The tragedy occurred on the railway, on the territory of Ekibastuz State District Power Plant-1, where the deceased Ernazar Yerlanuly trained as a freight train compiler. As his relatives said, a few hours before his death, the young man was sent alone to form trains.

“Brother got a job a month and a half ago. As an intern, all this time he was supposed to work only with a mentor. But on April 4 of this year, the mentor went on leave, and Ernazar was sent to work alone. Without experience, he doesn’t even have permission to work it happened,” said the brother of the deceased, Azamat Kazykenov.

He provided a video that captured the moment of the incident. The footage shows how the freight train stops, a young man passes between the trains, at this moment the train moves forward, and then sharply backs up and pins Ernazar between the cars.

“According to the rules, the train driver can start moving only after the command of the train compiler, who is constantly between the cars, because he uncouples and hooks them. And Yernazar several times told him to stop, but the train continued to move randomly. This command was heard by the compilers of neighboring trains, in the control room, according to his colleagues, when the driver, who had pinched Ernazar, approached him, already lying on the ground, his brother said that he asked him to stop, but he replied that he had not heard anything, and simply turned around and left,” says the brother of the deceased. Azamat Kazykenov.

A special commission is investigating the causes and circumstances of the death of the young Ekibastuz resident.

“According to preliminary data, on April 4 of this year, a train operator at Ekibastuz State District Power Plant-1 was pinched between cars. The causes and circumstances are being clarified. A special commission is investigating the accident,” the labor department of the Pavlodar region reported in response to an official request from a Tengrinews.kz correspondent.

The department added that more detailed information will be provided after the investigation is completed. The police are now waiting for its results.

“The Ekibastuz police are conducting a pre-trial investigation into the violation of labor safety rules. A forensic medical examination has been appointed. Based on the results of the examination and the conclusion of the labor inspectorate, a procedural decision will be made,” commented the press service of the Pavlodar region police department.

The relatives of the deceased guy are shocked by the behavior of some of his colleagues, who, having witnessed the incident, did not even try to help him. The video shows that the young man was conscious for some time. One worker approached him, then another, but none of them called the doctors.

“Ernazar’s friend, who that day was working at another site and found out about what had happened only 10-15 minutes later, called the ambulance. After the incident, my brother was on the territory of the enterprise for an hour and a half, then he was taken to the ambulance for another half hour, where he died. All this no one even called us. We found out about Ernazar’s departure only towards lunch, when he was already in the morgue, and they informed the parents as if this was an ordinary case, they thought that his brother had received some kind of injury, and they took him to the hospital. emergency room," said the brother of the deceased.

Ernazar's relatives demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice. According to them, more than 10 days have passed since Ernazar’s death, and they also have questions for the investigation.

“Last week, at the scene of his death, my brother’s friend found his watch, why the police didn’t see it is a big question. We also asked for video footage, they told us that the police had seized it. And a few days later we saw this video on TikTok, who is it? leaked there, unknown. We cannot get a recording of the conversation between the dispatcher, the driver and Ernazar. We are waiting for an honest and complete investigation into all the circumstances of Ernazar’s death,” said the brother of the deceased, Azamat Kazykenov.
