A new episode of violence shook the province of El Oro on the afternoon of this Saturday, April 27.

Víctor Eduardo Contreras Sigcho was shot dead inside a night club in the Pasaje canton, around 5:45 p.m. The violent event occurred on the busy Bolívar and Tarqui streets. Residents and customers in the area were desperate and dismayed by this episode.

According to eyewitness accounts, Contreras was inside the establishment when an individual wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, a beige cap, jean pants, and yellow boots entered the tolerance center. In possession of a firearm, the subject began shooting towards the victim despite the presence of witnesses, including the security guard, who - according to clients - was in the bathroom at the time.

Despite the efforts of the National Police and medical personnel, who quickly arrived at the scene, the 41-year-old citizen lost his life at the site of the attack.

The National Directorate of Violent Deaths (Dinased) took over the investigation of the case to clarify the motives and circumstances behind this crime. Among the first procedures, the viewing of videos captured by security cameras and the interrogation of workers and owners of the night club were expected.
