According to police reports, Caylan Porto da Silva, 19, died on the way to the Marataízes Emergency Care Unit. He was shot twice in the back. The other young man, 24, identified as Lucas de Melo Ventura, was shot twice in the abdomen and was taken to the Evangelical Hospital Litoral Sul in Itapemirim in serious condition, but also died.
At the crime scene, the Military Police received information that the suspect who carried out the shooting, after being restrained and attacked by locals, had been taken to a hospital in Presidente Kennedy. A team went to the scene to arrest the suspect and provide escort.
The man, identified as Pedro Fernandes Florindo, told the police that he is a gun collector and that he only has possession of the weapon used in the crime. According to witnesses' reports to the police, the suspect had been drinking alcohol since 11 am on Saturday. The motive for the crime was not disclosed.
The weapon used in the crime, a Taurus pistol with a magazine containing nine live rounds and one spent round, was handed over to the police by a resident who provided assistance to the victims. The weapon was handed over to the Itapemirim police station.
The suspect was transferred to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia Hospital, in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, under police escort until he was discharged.
When contacted by reporters, the Civil Police said that the suspect, 64 years old, was taken to the Marataízes Police Station and charged with homicide twice. He will be sent to the Provisional Detention Center (CDP).
The victims' bodies were sent to the Regional Section of Legal Medicine (SML), of the Scientific Police (PCIES), in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, to be autopsied and, later, released to the families.
