A security camera video captured the moment José Daniel Varela Mejía, a 20-year-old man, was attacked by at least five people with machetes in the Ortiz neighborhood, in the municipality of Apartadó, Antioquia.

The victim, who had been accused of involvement in three homicides in 2023 in the same municipality and had recently been released from prison , was transported alive to the local hospital on a motorcycle.
