The Western Cape has been overwhelmed by a wave of crime this past week, with incidents reported from every corner of the province, and cases on the Cape Flats are particularly on the rise.
Another three men are dead after they were mowed down in cold blood last night in Happy Valley, Mfuleni.
The incident took place at approximately 10:41 PM on a shop's veranda.
CCTV footage of the shooting, which is now circulating on social media, is enough to send chills down your spine.
In the video (which is just over two minutes long), a group of people is seen standing on the shop's veranda.
They stand and talk for several minutes before all hell suddenly breaks loose and two shooters begin firing at them from close range.
After the first few shots are fired, the shooters appear to walk away, at which point one of the victims manages to mercifully escape death by running away.
The shooters see this, then return and fire several more shots at the men still lying on the ground.
They then move out of the camera's view, and just before a pickup truck (bakkie) arrives to collect them, they walk back to the men on the ground and fire several more shots, specifically aimed at their heads, before getting into the truck and driving off.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident in Ekopoleni, Happy Valley, Mfuleni last night, in which three men between the ages of 24 and 27 were fatally wounded.
A fourth victim, an 18-year-old, sustained injuries and was hospitalized for treatment.
The video, which is in the possession of the Son newspaper, clearly shows more than one shooter, but according to the police report, it was allegedly a lone shooter.
"At approximately 10:41 PM, an armed man opened fire on the victims before being picked up by the driver of an Isuzu bakkie. They have yet to be arrested," Twigg stated.
While detectives follow up on all leads, operational members have been deployed to the area to maintain stability. At this stage, the motive for the shooting is suspected to be gang-related.
