The Yeoncheon 530GP was a case of a shot at a GP (Guard Post) belonging to the 28th Division of the Army in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the Central Front of Samgo-ri, Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do, Korea, in the early morning of June 19, 2005. Eight people were killed, two were injured, and two survived.
On May 7, 2008, the death sentence for Private Kim Dong-min, who was suspected of shooting, was confirmed.

-Suspect: Private Kim Dong-min (born August 14, 1989, aged 20 at the time).
-Details of the inccident: A grenada was throw at the interior team and 44 K1 machine guns were fired, and six people died instantly at the scene.
Private Kim Dong-min, who later moved to the fitness center, killed Lieutenant Kim Jong-myung, who he met there, with a K1 machine gun.

-Deaths: Lt. Kim Jong-myung (26), Jeong Young-chul (21), Jo Jung-woong (21), Park (22), Lee Tae-Ryeon (21), Cha Yoo-chul (21), Kim In-chang (21), Lee Kun-wook (20) corporal.
-Injured: Private Kim Yoo-hak (20), and Private Kim Jun-young (20).

Guard posts in South Korea are located on the front-line between North and South Korea at the DMZ (비무장지대). As they are located in the most dangerous area, they have special features that are different from the usual guard post. They are consisted of a bunker-type structure and few personnel.

The investigation revealed that Private Kim, who was involved in the incident, committed the crime out of resentment over frequent reprimands, insults, and other personal abuse he suffered from his superiors. The National Assembly's Truth and Reconciliation Subcommittee also concluded that the incident was due to his introverted personality, poor relationships with his co-workers, and insults and reprimands from some of his superiors.

The proposed alternative measures included supplementing GP guard personnel with volunteers, offering them various incentives such as special allowances and vacations, developing proactive incentives for military life, significantly increasing the salaries of enlisted personnel, and improving the enlisted personnel management system. The Minister of National Defense submitted his resignation following this incident, but it was not accepted. Senior commanders, including corps and division commanders, received only a minor disciplinary sanction: a three-month salary reduction, which drew widespread public criticism.
