On October 29, 2024, around 9:32 AM, in Chengdu, China, the attacker, Lei A (male, 19 years old), arrived at the front desk of a company on the second floor and began a conversation with the front desk staff, the victim, Chen B (male, 32 years old). At 10:04 AM, the attacker A suddenly pulled out a hammer and a knife from his bag and attacked the victim B. After being injured, the victim B fled to the first floor and collapsed in front of an internet café at a nearby shopping mall. The attacker A chased him and then used the knife to self-harm, cutting his neck multiple times.

To prevent the attacker A from further harming himself or endangering public safety, the police decisively used pepper spray to subdue him. Both A and B were sent to the hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, due to the severity of his injuries, victim B died despite efforts to save him.

Video footage from the scene shows a man repeatedly cutting his own neck with a small knife. Next to him, another man lies motionless in a pool of blood, with a hammer nearby. A crowd of onlookers surrounds them, shouting, “He’s going to kill himself! He’s committing suicide!” Soon after, police officers arrived at the scene to handle the situation.
