Mentally ill man jumps to his death trying to escape mob lynching in Nigeria

Disturbing new video shows a mentally ill man and suspected kidnapper jump to his death while trying to escape a mob lynching in Nigeria, according to local reports.

The incident took place in the Molete area of Ibadan, the capital and most populous city of Oyo State in Nigeria.

The man was reportedly seen receiving a package from unidentified individuals in a vehicle on the Molete overhead bridge prior to the attack.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle then left, and the man was searched, beaten and subsequently set ablaze by a mob at the scene.

Video of the incident shows the man naked with his pants down, dangling from the railing and his head on fire — before jumping down from the flyover in an attempt to escape the angry mob.

The man reportedly died on the spot from injuries sustained.

Among the items recovered by the mob on the man was a cheque for 7 million Nigerian Nairas (N7 million, approximately $17000 USD), an iPhone and a cutlass, a short sabre sword with a curved blade.

No details on the accusations of kidnapping were released.

Wether anyone was arrested or would face any criminal charge in regards to the lynching is unknown at this time.
