An accident between a freight train and a bus left one woman dead and at least five people injured on Friday afternoon (17) on the SIA in Brasília. The train hit the side of the bus, which was crossing the tracks, at 4:23 pm (see video above).

A driver passing by filmed the moment of the accident. In the images, it is possible to see the bus crossing the track slowly and then the train hitting the vehicle.

It is possible to hear the train emit a warning beep before it hit. The bus conductor and a female passenger were taken to hospital in serious condition.

According to the Civil Police, the driver went to Hospital de Base in a state of shock. He will then be taken to the 5th Police Station, in Asa Norte, to give a statement.

The woman who died was 37 years old, according to the fire department. With the impact of the crash, she was thrown out of the bus and then hit by the train.

The bus belongs to Viação Marechal and was on its way from W3 Sul to P Sul, in Ceilândia. The company confirmed that the victim who died was a passenger and says that it deeply regrets the accident and is "fully cooperating with the ongoing investigations" (see full note at the end of the report).

The bus was examined. The Centro-Atlântica Railway (FCA) train was loaded with bauxite, a type of aluminum, in 102 wagons.

The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) expressed its regret at the accident and said that it sympathizes with the victim's relatives.

"In a preliminary analysis carried out with the images of the accident, it is possible to see that the train advanced over the level crossing without paying attention to the signs and emergency warnings issued by the train," says ANTT.

ANTT said that it had called in the concessionaire to determine who was responsible for the accident, which will have up to 30 days to submit a report to the agency, pointing out the causes of what happened. The agency also said that it "carried out a technical inspection of all the level crossings (PNs) in Brasília on July 11 and also promoted educational activities at the site of the accident to advise drivers on the precautions to take when crossing a level crossing".

Victims

Mrs. N. A. V, 58, who was conscious and oriented, with a deep cut on the right side of her head, fractures to her left arm and right collarbone. She was taken to Hospital de Base by the Fire Brigade's Rescue 04 aircraft.

Mr. J. B. F, age unknown, was unconscious and unstable. He was transported by firefighters to Hospital de Base with severe head trauma.

Mr. J. R. C, 47, was transported by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) to Hospital de Base conscious and oriented, with abrasions on his face and arms.

Ms. M. P, 19, was transported by Samu to the Ceilândia Regional Hospital with no physical injuries, just a nervous breakdown.

Mr. P. D. C, 42, the driver of the bus, was transported by Samu in a state of shock and nervous breakdown, but had no injuries.

Mrs. J. A. V, 37, had injuries incompatible with life and was pronounced dead at the scene.
