MELAKA - A factory engineer's assistant died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a Perodua Viva car that was turning at the Taman Paya Emas traffic lights, Lebuh Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (AMJ), here on Sunday night.

In the incident at 9.30 in the morning, the victim, Amir Asyraaf Abdul Zalil, 24, who was riding a Yamaha YZF-R15M motorcycle, died at the scene of the incident.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said, the accident occurred when the victim was heading from Batu Berendam to Masjid Tanah on his way home from work.

"On arrival at the station, the car driven by Shahrom Nizam Sukri, 38, from Sungai Udang suddenly turned to the right of the road causing a collision.

"As a result of the violation, the victim whose address was in Taman Seri Jeram, Masjid Tanah was seriously injured and died at the scene of the incident while the driver of the car was also seriously injured in the head and received treatment at Melaka Hospital," he said in a statement on Monday.

He added that the victim's body had been sent to the Forensic Department of Melaka Hospital for the post-mortem process and a post-mortem request notice (Pol 61) was issued to find out the cause of death.

"There is a video camera recording from the public and the investigation is still ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added.<?blockquote>
