At least three people died and 20 were injured on Saturday after a milk tanker rammed into three cars which were parked near a fair in Sikkim's Ranipool. Several people gathered in the area got crushed under the vehicles as the force of the collision pushed them into the mela ground.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the moment the cars got pushed into the fair ground after the tanker rammed into them. Onlookers who were not injured in the incident rushed to help the people who got under the vehicles.
As per a preliminary probe, the milk tanker's brake failed, leading to the accident. The injured were taken to the Central Referral Hospital and the death toll is likely to increase.
The mela ground was filled with people at the time of the accident as a 'tambola' game was being held there.
The milk tanker had the Sikkim Milk Union's label on its side.
