A motorcyclist died on Sunday morning (24) after colliding head-on with a car at an intersection in the Praia de Itaparica neighborhood of Vila Velha. The site is signposted, but there is still no information about the circumstances that led to the collision between the two vehicles. The name of the victim has not been released.

The accident was recorded by a video surveillance camera just after 9am, at the intersection of Avenida Luciano das Neves and Avenida Saturnino Rangel Mauro. In the images, it can be seen that the motorcyclist, who was riding a Honda CB 300 Twister, and the driver of an HB20 crashed head-on, after each of them passed the traffic light on the road they were on. The impact was so strong that the motorcyclist's body spun in the air and was thrown onto the sidewalk next to a training center.

According to information from Vila Velha City Hall, the Municipal Guard attended to the incident, but at the scene it was not possible to determine whether there had been a red light.

The Civil Police said in a statement that the driver of the vehicle, 46, was taken to the Vila Velha Regional Police Station, where he was heard and released, as provided for in the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), since he had remained at the scene of the accident and there was no evidence of a crime that would justify his arrest in flagrante. The case will continue to be investigated by the Specialized Traffic Crimes Police Station.

The Scientific Police added that forensics were called in the morning and the victim's body was sent by the team to the Forensic Medical Department (DML) in Vitória to be examined and then released to relatives.
