Police in Regional Division Four ‘A’ disclosed moments ago that the 36-year-old woman who was crushed to death in an accident on Wednesday evening actually ran into the pathway of the vehicle.
Detectives said the deceased has been identified as Nina Williams. The motor lorry GAC 5046 driver is a 24-year-old man from Coconut Walk, Unity, East Coast Demerara (ECD). Reports indicate that around 22:30 hours at Princess and High Street, the lorry driver was proceeding south along High Street, while the woman was crossing from east to west. As she was in the center of the said street, she reportedly ran in a western direction into the path of the vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the woman was dragged some distance from the point of impact, receiving fatal injuries about her body.
Williams was pronounced dead on the scene by Emergency Medical Technicians. Her body is currently at the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the 24-year-old driver, which showed his BAC at .00%.
Guyana Standard understands that the driver remains in custody, assisting with the investigation.
