The César Gaviria Trujillo Viaduct, one of Pereira's architectural landmarks, was once again the scene of a tragedy related to the mental health issues facing thousands of people in the country.

On the afternoon of Thursday, July 10, 2025, Liam David Marín Pineda, a 16-year-old boy, died after jumping off the structure, despite efforts by the police and firefighters to prevent him.

The incident occurred around 12:00 pm, where, according to official reports, Liam remained on the viaduct for half an hour while police units tried to convince him to give up his position, which apparently had no way back.

Witnesses reported that during the conversation, the young man was in a critical emotional state. Later, when the firefighters attempted to set up equipment to approach, Liam made the fatal decision. He died instantly after colliding with a ditch located at the bottom of the bridge.

The body was removed by the Sijín (National Investigation Department), which transferred it to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for the corresponding procedures. Liam, who was a few months away from turning 17, lived in Pereira (Risaralda).

The young man's death sparked an immediate reaction on social media, where users reported alleged shortcomings in the free psychological support hotlines , such as Line 106, available in cities like Bogotá and Pereira; the national number 192, option 4, established by the Ministry of Health; the emergency line 123; and the WhatsApp number 300 754 8933 of the Bogotá Health Secretariat.

Many comments on social media indicated that calls to the service were sometimes unanswered or that appointment scheduling took too long, a situation that poses an additional risk to those facing serious crises.
