A construction worker believed to be Bangladeshi died after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car at the Sungai Layar-Semeling four-way traffic light intersection on Jalan Lencong Barat here yesterday.
In the incident at about 10pm, the victim, Mung Faruq Noorsalam, aged in his 40s, died at the scene due to severe injuries to his limbs.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said, the incident occurred when the victim was riding a Modenas Kriss motorcycle from the direction of Semeling to Sungai Layar while the Proton Pesona was driven by a 20-year-old man from the direction of Sungai Petani to Laguna Merbok.
"The accident is believed to have occurred when the victim violated a red traffic light and moved forward recklessly while at the traffic light intersection.
"The victim's motorcycle was then hit on the right side by a moving Proton Persona car after the traffic light turned green," he said here today.
He said the strong impact of the collision resulted in the death of the victim at the scene of the accident while the driver of the car did not suffer any injuries.
